Networking in Space Terrestrial Integrated Networks

The space terrestrial integrated network connects the Internet, mobile communication network and other terrestrial networks through a space-based network, which is an important way to achieve global network coverage. However, different technologies, standards, and protocols make it difficult to interconnect space-based networks and terrestrial networks. Therefore, in this paper, we propose IPSN, an IP-based hierarchical Space terrestrial integrated Network architecture. In IPSN, the space-based network is divided into three levels: intra-satellite network, inter-satellite network and satellite-ground network, each of which uses the mature IP protocol of terrestrial network. We also designed space routers and launched them into space, conducted networking experiments in space. IPSN can effectively integrate space-based networks with terrestrial networks and promote the application of mature and state-of-the-art technologies in terrestrial networks to space-based networks.
