Amplification of surface plasmons on a staggered doubly-corrugated metallic surfaces by electron beam

Surface plasmon polaritons(SPP) is a special bounded optical surface wave and can find many novel applications such as imaging, sensing, optical communications, etc. In this paper, the theoretical and numerical studies on the excitation of surface plasmon modes on a symmetric doubly-corrugated metallic surface with a staggered distance by electron beam are presented. According to the matched wave momentum of SPP mode and electron beam, SPP mode can be excited and amplified along corrugated metallic waveguide by injected electron beam within an operation frequency band. Besides, the numerical results of the interaction of SSP mode and electron beam on the structure based on a FDTD algorithm are given in terahertz band. The presented studies about the novel excitation method of SPP mode on the staggered doublycorrugated metallic gratings by electron beam can open up new ways to develop some novel optoelectronic and plasmonic devices such as integrated waveguide, filters and enhanced terahertz radiation source.
