Broadband Circularly Polarized Cylindrical Dielectric Resonator Antenna for Wideband Applications

In this article, a simple and low profile microstrip feed cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna (CDRA) with dual band circular polarization (CP) and wide impedance bandwidth is presented. The proposed antenna consists of aluminum oxide (Al
₂
O
₃
) cylindrical dielectric resonator having ϵ
_r,
dra
=9.8, placed on Rogers RT 5880 substrate with dielectric constant of 2.2. To achieve CP, microstrip feed is connected to the right corner of the DRA. In addition to that, DR is placed on edge of the vertical ground plane to decrease the overall volume of the antenna. The proposed antenna exhibits impedance bandwidth of 6.69 GHz (3.66 GHz-10.35 GHz) and dual axial bandwidth of 3.22 GHz (4.31 GHz-7.53 GHz) and 0.51 GHz (8.84 GHz-9.35 GHz). The parameters like: radiation efficiency, realized gain, normalized radiation pattern and group delay are analyzed by using CST microwave studio and reported. From the results, that it can play a significant role for modern day's wireless communication system.
