Extension of Snoek’s Law to Higher RF Frequencies by Controlling Nanomagnetic Particle Parameters

Snoek's law is one of the key theories to describe the relationship between the permeability level and the operating frequency in the bulk ferromagnetic material. Generalized Snoek's law, proposed by Acher et al., introduced the integral form to investigate the high frequency properties of ferromagnetic films and composites. In this paper, we study the influence of the size and shape on the properties of nanometer-scale magnetic particles (nanomagnets). It is shown that the size, thickness and geometric shape of nanomagnets play a vital role in determining the magnetic properties. However, they are still governed by either Snoek's law or generalized Snoek's law. Micromagnetic software package, Object Oriented MicroMagnetic Framework (OOMMF) is used as a theoretical framework in this study. Understanding the influence of shape opens the way to designing new nanostructured magnetic materials where the magnetic properties can be tailored to a particular application.
