A Novel PCB design Technique for Dual-polarized 5G Phased Array Antenna

A 2X4 dual polarized co-axial fed patch antenna array is designed on an eight Layer PCB with a gain of 14.0 dBi and a bandwidth of 1 GHz for 5G Local Multipoint Distribution Service (LMDS) band operation. A specialized PCB design process is adopted to accommodate two exclusive zones, housing the mm-wave transceiver and the digital section uniquely. To boost the data rate, polarization diversity is utilized and power from(to) two polarization ports are combined in the PCB and then fed to the PA(LNA) interface in an LTCC Package. The phased array design is further supported with beam forming simulations.
