A Coupling and Decoupling Device for Pulsed Current Injection in MIL-STD-188-125-2

In order to implement kA level pulsed current injection (PCI) in MIL-STD-188-125-2, a coupling circuit composed of the varistor and a decoupling circuit based on ferrite cores are designed by circuit analysis and simulation. Afterwards, the two parts were integrated into a compact device and validated in a PCI test. The validation result shows that the device can provide a high coupling and decoupling efficiency for kA level PCI, meanwhile does not interfere with normal operation of equipment under test. The device can be used to test the performance of electrical point-of-entry (POE) protective devices and long-line protection modules (LLPMs) for high-altitude electromagnetic pulse.
