A Modified Sliding Mode Controller for Active Stabilization of DC Microgrids with Constant Power Load

This paper presents a modified sliding mode controller to control a DC-to-DC converter supplying a constant power load in a DC microgrid. The studied DC microgrid consists of a power source, a DC-DC boost converter, a DC bus and a CPL. The modified sliding mode controller inherits the desired stability properties of the classic sliding mode controller as well as zero steady state output voltage error. In addition, a proposed region of existence is validated by introducing different initial conditions verifying the hypothesis of energy source limitation influencing controller performance. The region of existence describes the area where the sliding surface is positively invariant. The main advantages of the proposed method is the ease of implementation compared to higher order sliding mode controllers.
