Abstract:
In this paper a series hybrid electric vehicle with an asynchronous machine as Integrated Starter Generator and Traction Motor is designed and simulated. The different modes of operation namely starting, electric traction, engine traction, hybrid traction, engine traction with battery charging, battery charging and stopping are studied. The series hybrid vehicle model is tested against all these modes using MATLAB. A controller is designed in MATLAB to control the operation modes of the vehicle with a custom drive cycle. The performance of series hybrid power consisting of the Integrated Starter Generator, Traction Motor and Battery with its SOC controller and hybrid controller state flow for controlling the 7 modes of operation are evaluated experimentally. The Integrated Starter Generator and the Traction Motor is designed using three-phase induction machine and the performance has been evaluated. Direct Torque Control (DTC) algorithm is used for the motoring mode for controlling the speed and torque of the vehicle.
