Predictive Current Control of Six-Phase Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machines with Modulated Virtual Vectors

This paper presents a novel predictive current control strategy with modulated virtual voltage vectors for six-phase drives based on the asymmetrical permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSMs) with isolated neutrals. The proposed strategy combines two virtual vectors and two zero vectors over a sampling period, whose duty cycles are computed to minimize the tracking error of the current components mapped into the fundamental subspace. This strategy also considers the operation of the power converters in the overmodulation region by evaluating the possibility of applying two virtual vectors or a single virtual vector during a sampling period. Several simulation results are provided in order to demonstrate the good performance of the six-phase PMSM drive under the proposed control strategy.
