Research on the Improvement of Load Capacity of LCI-Fed Synchronous Motor by Constant Commutation Margin Angle Control

In this paper, a load-capacity improvement control strategy for the soft-start process of electric excitation synchronous motor driven by load commutated inverter (LCI) is proposed. In many electrical drive applications, it is important to increase the load capacity of the motor during the start-up stage. By analyzing the basic principle of LCI driving synchronous motor operation, comparing the torque and speed characteristics of two modes of constant commutation lead angle and constant commutation margin angle, it is verified that the constant commutation margin angle control mode has stronger load capacity. The control model of LCI-Fed synchronous motor soft start is built in Matlab/Simulink, and the corresponding experiment is carried out based on this model. Finally, the simulation results are verified on the 15kw synchronous motor platform.
