Research on maximum power point contrast tracking of photovoltaic system based on improved particle swarm algorithm

Multiple extreme points exist on characteristic curve of PV array under condition of partial shading.The traditional maximum power point tracking algorithm will fail for being trapped into a local optimum point. In reality, Local shading of photovoltaic arrays is very common and it is often not easy to fall into local optimum for the intelligent maximum power point tracking algorithm. Based on the basic model research of photovoltaic cells, this paper proposes a modified particle swarm optimization algorithm with adaptive inertia weight and by decentralizing the initial position of the particles at possible peak voltage, this algorithm will avoid fall into local extremum points without missing any extreme points. Finally, a complete system simulation model is built by MATLAB/SIMULINK software. Simulation indicates it is found that the improved particle swarm optimization algorithm can quickly find the maximum power point, and the algorithm is not easy to fall into the local optimum.
