Model Predictive Control-based Coordinated Control Strategy for VSC-MTDC Systems

A novel coordinated control strategy based on model predictive control (MPC) is proposed in this paper, aiming to achieve accurate power sharing and efficient dc voltage deviation regulation for voltage-sourced converter based multi-terminal HVDC systems (VSC-MTDC). Utilizing the developed small-signal model of MTDC systems, the proposed controller periodically generates optimal control signals and modulates the power references of converters in droop-controlled mode. By updating power references in real time, high efficient power sharing and dc voltage control performance are achieved. Finally, a six-terminal test MTDC system is built in MATLAB/Simulink and simulation results validate the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy under system disturbances.
