Inductance Identification of Synchronous Reluctance Motors Using Capacitor Discharge Method

Motor characterization has an important role in control of Synchronous Reluctance Motor (SynRM) which achieving the optimal efficiency and torque accuracy. This paper presents a new method by using the capacitor discharge to determine inductance characteristics of the SynRM, the magnetic saturation is taken into consideration. Apparent and incremental inductances will be analyzed and discussed. This presented identification method is general and to be able to use for many motor types, not only for SynRM. Finally, experimental results on the SynRM 1.1kW manufactured by ABB are presented to confirm the validity of the proposed method.
