Vehicles Location using Probabilistic Broadcasting in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) present a communication challenge since most of their nodes have low-performance hardware resources in a structureless environment. These nodes leave and join the network several times in short intervals. Thence, there is not a stable data link between all nodes. Various mechanisms, technics, protocols, and algorithms must be implemented to allow effective information sharing through the whole MANET. In this work, high-level architectonic design and an algorithm with a probabilistic schema are proposed in order to bring the capability to send information without control messages overload, through the use of low-level protocols and deciding when to forward a message. The message forwarding is determined by a counter schema that feeds the probabilistic algorithm. This solution allows a better performance due to sent packages reduction that does not saturate network bandwidth. Therefore this work contributes to risk mitigation related to Command, Control, and Communication (C3) center's workload. The above due to every node would have positioning capabilities provided by the use of common Wi-Fi Technology, a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) and a visualization interface.
