Velocity Tracking of PI and Fuzzy Controlled PMSM

A comparative study of the performance of conventional Proportional Integral (PI) Controller and modern Fuzzy Controller for velocity tracking of 2 PMS motors (PMSMs) supplied from single inverter with the usage of 4 legs using vector control is presented in this paper. The expanded two arm modulation (ETAM) addresses the issue of voltage imbalance at the neutral point of the two capacitors of the four leg inverter. Mathematical modeling of the motor-drive system followed by fairly accurate estimation of the Proportional and Integral gain is a prerequisite in the conventional control. Simulation is carried in MATLAB-Simulink and relative studies on tracking error, settling time, in addition to total harmonic distortion of stator current is presented.
