Robust Inter-turn Short-circuit Detection in PMSMs with Respect to Current Controller Bandwidth

Fast and reliable inter-turn short-circuit detection is essential for machine drive system. PMAC machines always work together with controllers and the controller parameters will affect the machine performance and the fault diagnosis in turn. The effects from the current controller bandwidth are special interested. In a closed-loop control PMSM drive system, the behaviours of the second harmonics in currents and voltages, induced by inter-turn short-circuit, along with the bandwidth are investigated theoretically. To combine the fault information both in currents and voltages, an indicator based on Rayleigh quotient, is proposed and compared with one published indicators, the second harmonics in instantaneous reactive power. Validated by Co-simulation, the presented indicator is more robust with respect to the controller bandwidth.
