A Numerical Study of Liquid-Vapor Interface in the Presence of Dielectrophoretic Force

Dielectrophoresis (DEP) is a translational motion of neutral matter caused by polarization effects in a non-uniform electric field. In this work, the impact of DEP force is investigated for the interface in a stationary two-fluid domain. The numerical work is based on the coupled two-fluid regime with the electric field with the DEP force present at the liquid-vapor interface. Interface tracking is achieved via the Cahn-Hilliard equations-based phase field method. The simulation results show that in the presence of DEP force, the original liquid-vapor interface gets altered by moving from its initial state to another state of equilibrium. The simulation results illustrate the fundamental understanding of electrically impacting the liquid-vapor interface that is relevant for phase separation in processes such as drying of moist porous medium.
