Frequency-Domain Modeling and Tustin Discretization Method based Controlling of DC Step-Up Chopper

In this article, the performance analysis of step-up DC chopper has been done in frequency domain. The state-space averaging method has been used to model the chopper's transfer function. For optimal chopper performance, a digital control strategy has also been formulated and presented in this paper using Tustin's method for bilinear transformation. The outer control loop has been established for robust controlling of the presented step-up chopper. It is validated that in Tustin's method based transformation approach, the controller gains have to be adjusted and kept consistent prior to its mapping into discrete domain and post-mapping as well. The modeling analysis has been validated under deviations in the chopper parameters by means of MATLAB Simulink software. The transient and steady state operation has been tested and the Simulink output results validate the presented controller design for the chosen step-up chopper.
