Development of Low Cost Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay Plate Reader

Elisa (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) is a method commonly used for screening patient such as Hepatitis, HIV, Malaria, etc. There are three components needed for screening patient using Elisa, the component are blood sample from the patient, diagnostic kit for the specific disease and plate reader used to measure the reaction between the sample and the kit. While the diagnostic kit cost are affordable but the commercial plate reader are still expensive. This system consists of LED as its light source, silicone photodiode as its sensor, stepper motor coupled with rotating screw as linier actuator and microcontroller used to control the system. The system have been test in laboratory using a substance with known absorption index in 96 wellplate and then compare it with commercial plate reader. The result from the benchmark shown that the plate reader that been designed show average deviation of ± 0.368 Absorption index.
