Optimization Framework for Peer-to-Peer Charging of Electric Vehicles in Multi-area Distribution Networks

In this article, a new optimization framework is introduced to facilitate peer-to-peer (P2P) electric vehicles (EVs) charging in different power distribution networks (PDNs) of the city. A concept of multi-area PDN is projected to optimize the EV charging while improving the performance of multiple PDNs simultaneously. Objectives of the model are to minimize system power loss and node voltage deviation by exploiting charging points, in multiple distribution systems, of different areas simultaneously. For real-life scenario, the proposed approach is implemented on eight PDNs, modeled based on available geographic information. To solve this optimization problem, an improved genetic algorithm is adopted. The effectiveness of proposed model is demonstrated by comparing the performance of these PDNs in different EV charging strategies.
