A New Saliency-Based Sensorless Method For Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor Drive

In high-frequency square-wave injection sensorless methods, the amplitude of the carrier current which is used for rotor position estimation depends to the injection voltage amplitude and reversely to the injection frequency. Increasing the injection signal amplitude will increase the acoustic noise level and high-frequency losses. In this paper, a new pulsating semi-impulse signal injection method by the technique of measuring the high-frequency current is proposed for the sensorless control of interior permanent magnet synchronous motors (IPMSM). In the proposed method not only the benefits of the square-wave methods can be achieved but also the unwilling issues caused by high-frequency injection such as acoustic noise and power losses will be reduced. Hence, the scope of the sensorless drive application will be developed by aiding the proposed method especially for some applications which are sensitive to the audible noise such as a home appliances. The proposed method has been tested by simulation results and implementing experimental tests.
