Design a High-Speed Segmental Stator Type 4/3 SRM for Blender Application

This paper presents a design of a high-speed segmental stator type 4/3 switched reluctance motor (SRM) for blender application. The stator of the proposed motor consists of two independent segmental U-cores, and each U-core has two stator poles, there are no steel connections between two cores. Two phases of the proposed motor are operated independently, and there are no reversal or mutual flux. The rotor has three poles with a stepper air gap. The stepped air gap is applied to the rotor shape to overcome the torque dead-zone and release self-starting ability. The rotor can rotate in one direction only; this motor type is suitable for unidirectional rotation application. Phase excitation forms a short flux path in U-core; the flux travels in the exciting phase only. The flux path in the proposed motor is shorter compared with a convention SRM that results in reducing the magnetomotive force to produce the same output torque. The design was verified by finite element analysis. The operation principle and characteristic of the proposed motor will be presented in detail. The average torque of the proposed motor is 60% higher compared with that of a 4/2 SRM.
