Combined Heat and Power Economic Dispatch (CHPED) using Euclidean Distance and Black Hole-Collective Decision Optimization (BH-CDOA) algorithm

Combined heat and power (CHP) is an energy-saving method in which electricity and heat are produced simultaneously. Nowadays, due to increased energy consumption, high losses of power transmission and low efficiency of electricity generation, the use of combined heat and power production has been considered. In order to make effective use of cogeneration units, the economic dispatch of combined heat and power (CHPED) was introduced. In the economic dispatch of electricity and heat (CHPED), the goal is to find the optimal point of production of electricity and heat with a minimum fuel cost So that both heat and electricity demand will be met. In this paper, a new hybrid optimization algorithm called the Black Hole-Collective Decision Optimization Algorithm (BH-CDOA) is introduced for CHPED. The feasible operating limits for cogeneration units include both power and heat demand in which both are functions of each other. Thus, it forms the complex inequality constraint which should be handled for satisfactory operation of CHP units within their capacity limits. In order to consider the constraint area of the operation of the cogeneration units, Euclidean distance method is used which determines if the solution is not contained within the feasible region, the violated values are made to contribute as penalty based on Euclidean distance in the objective function. The objective functions are also considered economically and the problem is studied on a 4-unit system including 1 unit of electricity, 2 units of cogeneration and 1 unit of heat generation. The results will show the effectiveness of the proposed method.
