BER Performance of Joint PTS PAPR Reduction Technique and Wiener HPA Predistortion in OFDM System

The High-speed digital communication systems have adopted OFDM system, and one of it's advantage is good bandwidth efficiency with the best performance. However, the OFDM still has a major disadvantage, it's Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) is high. A high PAPR of OFDM signal requires a power amplifier with a wide dynamic range to accommodate the signal, if it is not fulfilled, it will cause the nonlinear distortion and degrade the OFDM performance. To overcome the nonlinear distortion that occurs in the Power Amplifier (PA), an optimization scheme is proposed. The scheme is to combine the Partial Transmit Sequence (PTS) PAPR reduction technique and predistortion. PTS is a PAPR reduction technique which can prevents signals reach the PA saturated region. And the predistortion technique is used to extend the linear range of PA. The system performance will be evaluated using BER. The results show that the joint PTS-predistortion technique performance gives better than PTS without predistortion. Joint PTS-predistortion technique can improve BER performance with values reach 10

at 11 dB SNR, while for systems without predistortion the BER value is only 10
