Rhythmicity in Elevated Coastal Landforms: Time Series Analysis of Lidar-Based Elevation Data

High-resolution LiDAR mapping has allowed discovering and interpreting previously unseen landscape features, such as relict foredune and beach ridge systems on prograding (uplifting) coasts. Spatial and temporal spacing in the rhythmic patterns of such features are studied using spectral analysis. Both ridge counting and spectral analysis yielded similar results regarding average spacing (29-31 years), but spectral analysis delivered more detailed and diverse output. Positions of spectral peaks depend (even within ±20%) on how local Holocene-time apparent uplift is taken into account and how the general course of the coastal profile is approximated.
