Displacement Linear Surface Rupture of the 2018 Palu Earthquake Detected by Sentinel-1 Sar Interferometry and Very High-Resolution Imageries of Planetscope Data

The Indonesian Archipelago is prone to disaster. It is important to map the impact of the disaster accurately for the recovery process as well as for the education of future generations. Conventional field survey for disaster mapping is problematic due to labour extensive, costly, and time-consuming. This study will evaluate the utilization of interferometric algorithm of Sentinel-1 Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) dataset combining with the very high-resolution (VHR) data of PlanetScope of 2018 Palu earthquake, Indonesia. We successfully documented the displacement linear surface ruptures due to the earthquake. The Line-of-Sight (LOS) vertical displacement is ~1 meters while the horizontal displacement is ~ 2 meters. The availability of Sentinel-1 SAR data and VHR data of PlanetScope provide benefit for large-scale disaster monitoring impact.
