Novel and Robust Hysteresis Current Control Strategies For a BLDC Motor: A Simulation Study and Inverter Design

The major objective of the present study is to control the torque of the BLDC motor through hysteresis current control for electric vehicle applications. In this regard, we have proposed two strategies. In the case of small machines due to their low inductance values, a buck-boost circuit is implemented using a three-phase inverter configuration with a novel sensing algorithm. Speed control is implemented using a PI controller which generates the reference current signal. For machines with higher inductance value, a novel topology has been suggested to control the current using a single current sensor, thereby decreasing sensor costs by one third. Also the strategies presented are robust as they are minimally dependent on motor parameters.
