Intentional Islanding Case Presentation for a University Campus

This paper presents a proposal for the operation of a Smart Grid in cases of intentional islanding through the rejection of non-priority loads and continuous operation of priority loads in a university campus. This operation occurs through alternative energy sources, such as diesel generator, photovoltaic panels with batteries capable of maintaining the loads operation, and integrated control and protection devices. One-line diagrams of power grid from Campus Palmas of Federal University of Tocantins (UFT) are presented to illustrate the operation of the electrical grid, showing the impacts and technical benefits of the Smart Grid. It is possible to use this study for applications in other university campuses, future studies of economic viability and proposals of technical improvements of operation.
