An Expulsion Fuse Model Including Melting and Arcing Times Representation Using ATP-EMTP

In many cases, simulations of electrical power systems (EPS) require more realistic representations of their components. As the behavior of the protection system plays an important role in several types of EPS studies, it is relevant for the improvement of the protection devices’ models. Thus, in this work, an expulsion fuse model to be used in ATP-EMTP simulations is proposed. The model considers the melting and arcing periods with mathematical approximations and yields well-estimated results for the fuse opening times in fault simulations performed in a study-case system. It is observed, that the proposed model describes the expulsion fuse characteristics in a satisfactory way.
