Implementation of a DG interconnection system by using the Virtual Synchronous Generator Approach

The modern organization of the power system based on ac microgrids allows the insertion of distributed generation (DG) feeding by renewable energy sources (RES). This new configuration demands the development of control strategies for improving the efficiency and reliability of these networks. Among the possible, the virtual synchronous generator (VSG) concept has gained increased interest in providing a suitable solution to interconnect the DGs to the power systems. This paper presents a solution to the DG interconnection system by using the VSG approach. Differently, from the solutions proposed before, the virtual inertia of the proposed solution employs a controlled time delay inserted into the active and reactive power control loops. Besides, the paper also presents possible solutions for providing a suitable VSG start-up. Experimental results demonstrated the performance of the proposed method.
