Evaluation of Grid Compatible Load Management Concepts for E-Mobility in Distribution Grids

The increase in electric-mobility is expected to increase grid utilization due to the high peak loads of electric vehicles. The risk of local grid congestions increases, especially due to high local penetration in individual low-voltage grids. Load management is being investigated as a measure for postponing or preventing grid congestions. Concepts originate from load activation times of power-to-heat systems (P2H), which can only be operated within specific periods. By spreading these activation times over time, simultaneity factor and grid utilization are reduced. In contrast to P2H, however, e-mobility customers require availability of their vehicles at all times. Therefore, the charging behavior is analyzed based on the statistical driving behavior in Germany. From this, requirements for the load management concepts are derived. The concepts are assessed in a study case of fifty representative low-voltage feeders and are compared to results from the field test "NETZLabor E-Mobility-Alley" of the DSO "Netze BW".
