A Metafilm Based on Magnetic-Metamaterial-Lined Discs

This work presents a highly miniaturized metafilm unit cell based on metallic discs that are coated using μ-positive and large (MPL) liners. The proposed MPL-coated discs resonate at frequencies where they measure λ/9 or smaller in diameter, and exhibit a fano-shape reflection behaviour (i.e., a maximum in reflection followed by a minimum). The proposed metafilm demonstrates a polarization-selective behaviour when illuminated using a plane-wave. In this paper, we present simulation as well as experimental data demonstrating 10-12 dB better shielding at resonance using a compact metafilm measuring 1.3λ by 1.3λ. Furthermore, the proposed design remains transparent outside the shielding band.
