Image Reconstruction of Freshly Excised Human Breast Tumors using Terahertz Electrical Properties

This work proposes the use of single point pulsed terahertz (THz) transmission spectroscopy implemented on human breast cancer tissues over the frequency range from 0.1 to 3.5 THz. In addition, THz reflection imaging is performed and the data obtained is used to calculate the refractive index and absorption coefficient at each pixel on the tissue. The calculated data at each pixel is then used to construct the THz tomographic images, which demonstrate reasonable differentiation between different tissue types in the excised tumor.
