Folded 1-bit Transmitarray with Reduced Height

This paper presents a low profile folded transmitarray (TA) antenna in Ku-band. The folded TA antenna consisted of a polarization selected transmitting array, a polarization twisting reflector and a microstrip feed antenna. The proposed unit-cell of transmitting surface is based on a pair of identical slot loaded rectangular microstrip patches printed on both the top and the bottom layers. The patches are connected by metallized via holes located at the center. The 1-bit phase shift is realized by physical rotation of the patches. The initial folded TA antenna already shows promising results in terms of directivity and thickness reduction.
