Nav-Cane A Smart Cane for Visually Impaired People

this paper discusses the prototyping and testing of a cane for visually impaired people, to guide them through their daily routines and how they can move freely without hitting hindrances in their way. The cane is made by using two ultrasonic sensors for navigation, a vibrating motor and a buzzer for alerting the person and a microcontroller to control the device. The device is powered by a 12 volts rechargeable battery with battery life of 4 hours. It is tested under normal conditions faced by visually impaired people in their day to day routines and provided good results which opens door for further research in this area. The device is low cost and portable, which is easy to handle, easy to purchase and easy to maintain.
