Q-GIS-MCDA based approach to identify suitable biomass facility location in Sikkim (India)

With the increasing odds in the availability of conventional sources of energy like coal and petroleum, the search for alternative sources has become a top priority in many aspects. While the common renewable energy sources like solar and hydro energy are already being put into great implementation, the uncommon ones like biomass energy still face a long way for its complete usage. Sikkim, being a densely vegetated state, account for a large supply of biomass regularly. A Q-GIS (Quantum Geographical Information System) based system has been used along with an MCDA (Multi Criteria Decision Analysis) approach to figure out the optimum locations for biomass facility within the state of Sikkim and its further usage as a source of energy. The approach used in this analysis can also be implemented in any further studies of similar nature.
