Spider Chart based Pictographic Image Comparison in Walking Speed Estimation

In this paper, spider chart based pictographic image comparison is suggested for determination of gait cycle time for walking speed estimation. Ground reaction force data and ankle's position information from human gait for different walking speed are collected during level walking on motorized treadmill. Accordingly, spider charts of those collected and digitized gait data are developed for different walking speed and changes in pictographic images are compared for characterization of the different gaits. A fusion technique namely, `k out of n' redundant fusion technique is also applied for generating a fail-safe and robust estimation. The gait cycle time estimation technique is further validated by the time recorded during laboratory trials.
