A critical appraisal in smart material fabrication for smart systems

For smart structure and system, the material should be able to withstand higher load and the weight of the materials should be minimum. In the regard of less weight requirement aluminum and magnesium alloy and composites plays major role. This article gives understanding of preparation of magnesium composite for smart structures. Magnesium composite is a prospective resource for numerous solicitations of industries due to their good mechanical and physical characteristic. The upgrading of corrosion resistance, stiffness, specific strength, damping behavior, creep, fatigue and wear behavior characteristic are considerably induced by the addition of strengthening elements. This paper presents the synopsis on the effects of different casting techniques, their method, effect of methods, importance of their qualities and disadvantages. The main trend like the effects in mechanical properties, microstructure, agglomerating effect, interfacial transition, matrix -fiber bonding and the difficulties allied with the particle distribution by manufacturing process of smart material for smart structure are discussed in this paper.
