Effect of Temperature on Local Stresses in Magnetoelectric Composites

The present study focuses on the effect of temperature on local stress in magnetoelectric composites. An attempt is made to mimic the magnetostriction with thermoelasticity in order to achieve the stress distribution. The magnetoelectric effect is found below at room temperature in single-phase material. To overcome such limitation, combining a magnetostrictive material with piezoelectric component delivers a composite which can exhibit magnetoelectric effect at room temperature and higher. The current study involves modeling of magnetostriction effect in ferrite material based on orderly strained domains in a matrix considering ordered property axis. The variation of von-Mises stresses in a magnetoelectric composite is highly dependent on temperature. Consequently, it becomes important to understand and document the phenomenon of magnetoelectric composites based on temperature. The FE analysis has been performed to study the effect of local stresses in magnetoelectric composites for different reference temperatures, load temperatures, and different configurations. The present study could contribute to the development of multifunctional devices such as magnetoelectric transducers, sensors, and actuators.
