Automated 3D CAE Modelling of Femur Human Bones

The work deals with the development of a computer added information system that allows creating 3D models of femur human bones and conducts an analysis of its deformed state within a standard load. An algorithm of automatic 3D geometry and finite elements (FE) modelling is created which allows changing the parameters of the bone, such as length, a radius of a head, a radius of a neck, an angle of inclination of the head etc. This will enable to design of individual models for each person. The algorithm has a bottom-up design principle based on the information from a set of keypoints in bones sections. That makes possible to use the information from the tomography images. Developed models have a multilayered structure and allow to take into account a curvilinear orthotropy of the mechanical properties of biological materials. The CAD models developed with an algorithm are also ready for different CAE analysis. The algorithm is realized as a user ready integrated software which consists of specific steering program and commercial CAD/CAE software. The software implementation is made using a distribution for the Python Anaconda programming language, using libraries Tkinter (library for working with a graphical interface) and PIL (library for working with images). The 3D modelling of the femur and the procedures for static analysis evaluation are recorded as text macroses executing in batch launch mode of CAD/CAE software. The results of modelling can be analyzed using the CAD/CAE postprocessing possibilities or as imported images into the steering program.
