Ray-Optical Modelling of Scattering by Engineered Electromagnetic Surfaces

This paper presents a ray-optical model for the scattering of radio waves by engineered electromagnetic surfaces. The model is derived by evaluating the critical-point contributions of a physical optics integral, and is valid for reflective surfaces whose unit-cell patterns can be well approximated by continuous and smooth reflection phase profiles. Numerical results demonstrating the efficacy and accuracy of the model are also presented.
