Computational Modelling for RC Cylindrical Column Corrosion using Axisymmetric BEM

An computational modelling of the reinforced concrete (RC) corrosion is developed in this work. The main purpose of this modelling is to reduce the needs of highperformance computer for the simulation of RC cylindrical column corrosion using Boundary Element Method (BEM). Thus, axisymmetric modelling was integrated to the conventional BEM in order to reduce the computational effort. In this study, the potential on whole domain of RC cylindrical column structure was modeled by Laplace equation. The corroded and non-corroded areas on the reinforcing steel (rebar) were represented by their polarization curve. The Laplace equation was solved by BEM, thus the potential on the structure can be determined. The simulation results show the similar potential distribution between conventional BEM using triangle element and developed BEM using axisymmetric element. However, BEM using axisymmetric element significantly reduce the computer effort (i.e. in term of time-consuming) for the simulation. Hence, the development of the axisymmetric modelling for BEM becomes a powerful tool to reduce the computational effort for the RC cylindrical column corrosion simulation.
