Designing Effective Microwave Antennas for Clinical Applications in Thermal Medicine

The field of thermal medicine is a wide open arena for innovations in microwave antenna development. After a brief overview of typical clinical applications and available technology, three examples of antenna designs that solve unique clinical challenges will be considered as motivation for future development process. Along with a healthy appreciation for past successes in device development, it is important to contemplate the entire process of accurately translating clinical challenge to appropriate design goals and implementing sufficiently adaptable device features to ensure effective clinical performance. A good appreciation for this collaborative process should enhance the success of future microwave antenna developments for the field of medicine.
