Efficient terahertz generation and detection using CdTe crystal pumped by ultrafast Ytterbium laser

In this work, we study terahertz (THz) generation and detection from CdTe crystal pumped by an Ytterbium (Yb) laser at 1.045 μm wavelength. We compare the performances of THz emission and detection of CdTe crystals to those of GaP crystals and show 50% higher efficiency for detection and 5 times higher efficiency for generation of THz waves from the CdTe crystal.
