Current-based EMF-assessment method for vehicles

The human exposure towards low-frequency magnetic fields is limited by several EMF-guidelines, recommendations and national directives. Within a vehicle, these magnetic fields are mainly caused by currents along the power lines of a vehicle. This paper presents a method in which magnetic field reference values from EMF-guidelines are returned to current limits by a coupling factor. These current limits allow the EMF evaluation methods to be applied to any current signal directly. In this way a statement about EMF can be made in the early phase of a vehicle development.
