OFDM Channel Sounding in Line - of - Sight V2V Applications

Traditionally, the empirical characterization of (mobile or not) radio channels has been requiring the use of bulky, costly and power demanding Channel Sounders (CS). Even though the channel can be characterized with a high degree of accuracy, these instruments may be difficult to deploy in some situations. For example, in the fast characterization of Vehicle - to - Vehicle (V2V) channels, the size of the sounding system may be an issue. In this communication, we present a CS based on the Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (OFDM) in the 5.9 GHz band. As we will show, the hardware implementation, which is based on Software Defined Radios (SDR), makes possible to save energy and cost as long as providing embeddability.
