Mathematical Model of Electrodynamic Suspension during Passage of the Guideway Track Joints

This paper proposes a mathematical model for the calculation of eddy currents, which are induced in conducting a guideway track taking into account the presence of rail joints. The calculation of the electromagnetic force components acting on a moving coil with current, which plays the role of a magnetic support in an electrodynamic suspension system, was performed. An estimate of perturbations introduced by rupture of the guideway track to lift (levitating) and braking forces was obtained by an example of the rectangular coil with a direct current moving above an infinite nonmagnetic conductive plate with a cut. The results of numerical experiments are presented as the graphs of coordinate dependences of the electromagnetic force on time. It is found that above the cut (joint of guideway track), the levitation force suffers an essential decrease, which can achieve 17%, and the braking force perturbation has an alternating character and can exceed its value in modulus.
