A X-band Coplanar-coupled-fed Microstrip Array with Enhanced Bandwidth for Coastal Radar

A coplanar-coupled-fed microstrip antenna array is proposed on a single-layer substrate with enhanced bandwidth to provide a low-cost solution for coastal radar systems. Coplanar coupled feeding technology is applied to enhance the impedance bandwidth as well as lowering manufacturing costs. Two slots are etched on the non-radiating edges of antenna element to broad the bandwidth further. And the feed network is designed based on the Taylor distribution of the current to obtain low side lobe. The simulated results show that the proposed microstrip array achieves 4.06% impedance bandwidth from 9.15 GHz to 9.53 GHz. The gain is better than 19.3 dBi, and the side lobe level is lower than −26 dB.
