A Control Method of Mobile Wireless Charging for Connected EVs Travelling on Freeway

The rapid development of electric vehicles gives rise to significant power charging demand. It is extremely urgent to solve the charging problem for EVs while the endurance mileage is limited and the charging station is not setup enough. In the manuscript, a convenient and flexible mobile wireless charging mechanism for EVs is proposed. A mobile charging station is designed to track behand the EVs which need powering. Firstly, the charging proceeding is based on magnetic coupling resonant power transfer. The influence factor of charging power and efficiency is analyzed. It is found that the charging power and efficiency is a function of distance between transmitting coil and receiving coil. The states about the couple of EV and mobile charging station can be exchanged by communication. Then, it is transferred to a distance control problem of couple of networked system. A model predictive controller is designed for the mobile charging station to track the free travel EV. Finally, the feasibility of the strategy is verified by simulation.
