Simulation of error process on mobile radio channels based on chaos equations

Accurate error process simulation is the natural and essential condition for an accurate choice of coding parameters during communication network planning. Chaotic attractors have proved to be extremely useful devices during error process definition, because of their pseudo-random appearance in spite of their totally deterministic nature. In this paper an algorithm to simulate noise and clustering effects is presented, based on Lorenz attractor properties; moreover, we show some results in order to stress the chaotic model adaptability to pseudo-random patterns of error processes in particular for mobile radio channels. The model is very simple as requires to tune only four parameters. Furthermore the procedure is completely automatic and makes use of 'standard' optimisation tools. Despite of this, it is proven to be capable to capture the behavior of most of the channels used for testing.
